Nehi Cares is a minority, woman, and veteran-owned business named in honor of a remarkable woman – my grandmother, Juanita, also known as Nehi (pronounced 'Knee High'). She was a caring and loving individual who was always willing to help anyone in need. Her influence shaped me into the caring and compassionate person I am today. I named my company Nehi Cares – to honor her memory and continue her legacy of kindness and compassion.
Meet Juanita Banks-Whittington, a dedicated Author, Army Veteran, Social Worker, Wellness and Diversity Practitioner, wife, and mother. Juanita's experiences growing up with parents who suffered from mental illnesses, substance abuse, and incarceration pushed her to break generational curses and to be the resilient person she is today. She highlights her grandmother, Nehi, as her first role model and mentor who instilled in her the importance of being the best version of herself and helping others in need. The foundation of who she is today and the missions of both Nehi Cares and Diverse Children's Books Matter are deeply rooted in the values Nehi taught her.
Juanita is a highly educated and skilled individual with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Baltimore and a Master of Social Work in Mental Health from the University of Maryland Baltimore. She holds Equal Employment Opportunity, Diversity and Inclusion, and Mediation certifications. This gives her the unique ability to take all her experiences and skills to educate others on the importance of mental health, wellness, diversity, and inclusivity.
Juanita's passion for helping others is also evident in her work as an author. She has two inspirational books: I Love My Daddy is a heartwarming children's book about the special bond between a little girl and her father. Her second book, Who Am I, is featured in Joy 365: A Devotional For Joy Restoration, along with other phenomenal co-authors. Through her writing, Juanita aims to touch readers' hearts and remind them of the beauty and resilience within themselves.
Her work has been featured on various news platforms, including Tabitha Brown’s 'Very Good Mondays', NBC 4 Washington, Resilient Magazine, FEMI Magazine, The Baltimore/Annapolis Times, The Washington Informer, Miami Times, and more.
Juanita's dedication and compassion make her a powerful force for positive change. She is a true champion for those in need, and her unwavering commitment to helping others is an inspiration to all.
